ICT Police deploy over 15,000 personnel for 177 Muharram processions, 929 gatherings

Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT) Police has finalized a comprehensive security plan for Muharram-ul-Haram, deploying more than 15,000 personnel to ensure security of 177 processions and 929 religious gatherings across the federal capital from 1st Muharram to 19th Safar.

ISLAMABAD, Jun 15 (APP): Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT) Police has finalized a comprehensive security plan for Muharram-ul-Haram, deploying more than 15,000 personnel to ensure security of 177 processions and 929 religious gatherings across the federal capital from 1st Muharram to 19th Safar.
An official told APP on Monday that a special control room had been established at Safe City Islamabad for round-the-clock monitoring of all processions and gatherings.
Inspector General of Police (IGP) Islamabad Syed Ali Nasir Rizvi was personally monitoring all security arrangements and regularly reviewing operational preparedness.
According to the official, 10 vigilance teams have been constituted to inspect security deployments and ensure effective implementation of the security plan.
All DIGs, SSPs and AIGs of Islamabad Police have been assigned security duties, while daily search and combing operations are being conducted across the district to maintain law and order.
The official said more than 3,000 cameras and drone technology were being utilized to monitor processions and religious gatherings, while Quick Response Teams had been placed on high alert to deal with any emergency situation.
Capital Patrol Unit teams would remain deployed in areas hosting processions and gatherings, while more than 500 traffic officers would perform duties to ensure smooth flow of traffic during Muharram.
The official said Islamabad Police, Security Division, Traffic Police, Counter Terrorism Department (CTD), Logistics Wing, Special Branch and other relevant agencies were working in close coordination to ensure foolproof security arrangements.
Special briefing and training sessions have also been conducted for police personnel and volunteers deployed on Muharram duties.
Lady police contingents have been assigned for security checking at women’s gatherings and processions, while senior police officers are conducting daily visits to Imambargahs across the capital.
Separate parking arrangements have been made for vehicles and motorcycles attending processions and religious gatherings to facilitate mourners and maintain traffic flow.
The official urged citizens to cooperate with police during Muharram-ul-Haram and immediately report any suspicious activity or emergency through the Police Emergency Helpline Pucar-15.
