Human organ trade case: court sends 5 accused to jail on judicial remand

ISLAMABAD, Jul 03 (APP):The District & Sessions Court of Islamabad on Friday sent five suspects, including Chinese nationals, to jail on judicial remand in a case involving the alleged illegal collection and export of human placenta.
The suspects were produced before the court after the completion of their physical remand, while investigators sought additional custody for further questioning.
The case was heard by Judicial Magistrate Ahmed Shehzad Gondal. During the proceedings, officials from the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) requested a five-day extension of the suspects’ physical remand, arguing that further investigation was required.
The investigation officer informed the court that inquiries were still underway and that statements of witnesses had already been recorded before a magistrate under Section 164 of the Criminal Procedure Code. The officer maintained that additional custody was necessary to complete the investigation.
However, the court rejected the FIA’s request for further physical remand and ordered that all five suspects be sent to jail on judicial remand.
The arrests were made during a recent joint operation conducted by the FIA and the Human Organ Transplant Authority (HOTA) in Islamabad’s F-7 sector. Five individuals, including Chinese nationals, were taken into custody in connection with the case.
According to investigators, a large quantity of human placenta was recovered during the raid. Authorities seized fresh, dried, and processed placenta from the premises.
The suspects are alleged to have obtained human placenta from hospitals in Peshawar, Rawalpindi, and Lahore. Investigators claim that the material was collected, processed, and prepared for export.
Officials further alleged that the processed placenta was falsely declared as sheep organs before being shipped abroad. The investigation is focused on determining the source of the material, the individuals involved in its collection, and the network responsible for its export. The court directed authorities to present the suspects again after the completion of the judicial remand period.
