ISLAMABAD, Dec 08 (APP):In a significant development aimed at ensuring transparency and efficiency in Pakistan’s public health sector, Prof. Dr. Shahzad Ali Khan, Vice Chancellor of the Health Services Academy (HSA), has been elected as the Chairman of the Global Fund Pakistan Oversight Committee.
The election took place during a high-level meeting held at the Country Coordinating Mechanism (CCM) Secretariat within the National Institute of Health (NIH).
Dr. Shahzad Ali Khan secured a landslide victory, reflecting the overwhelming confidence of the members in his professional expertise and leadership capabilities. He will serve in this pivotal role for a tenure of two years.
The Oversight Committee holds a critical mandate to monitor billions of rupees in grants dedicated to the eradication of HIV/AIDS, Tuberculosis (TB), and Malaria in Pakistan. According to experts, the committee’s primary objective is to ensure that Global Fund resources are utilized with strict transparency and strategic effectiveness.
The body is responsible for the continuous monitoring of program performance, financial management, and procurement processes. It is also empowered to identify implementation bottlenecks or regulatory violations and recommend timely corrective measures to prevent the wastage of funds, ensuring they generate tangible health impacts.
Public health experts have termed Dr. Khan’s appointment a “good omen” for the health sector. Analysts believe that under the leadership of such a seasoned and integrity-driven professional, the accountability mechanism for Global Fund projects will be significantly strengthened.
It is expected that Dr. Khan’s chairmanship will revitalize national disease control programs, ensuring that international investments deliver the desired results for patient welfare.
