Hot, humid weather to persist; rain-thundershowers likely in upper parts of country on Saturday

ISLAMABAD, Aug 07 (APP): The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has forecast hot and humid weather in most parts of the country on Saturday, with rain-wind/thundershowers expected at isolated places in Kashmir, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, northeastern and southern Punjab, and Gilgit-Baltistan.

According to the PMD, Islamabad and adjoining areas are likely to remain partly cloudy, with chances of rain-wind/thundershowers.

In Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, hot and humid weather is expected in most districts. However, rain-wind/thundershowers are likely at isolated places in Chitral, Dir, Swat, Kohistan, Shangla, Battagram, Mansehra, Abbottabad, Buner, Bajaur, Mohmand, Khyber, Orakzai and Kurram. During the evening and night, similar weather is expected at isolated places in Peshawar, Mardan, Swabi, Nowshera, Kohat, Bannu, Hangu, Waziristan and Dera Ismail Khan.

In Punjab, hot and humid conditions are expected to prevail in most districts during the day.

However, rain-wind/thundershowers are likely at isolated places in Rawalpindi, Murree, Galiyat, Attock, Chakwal, Jhelum, Mandi Bahauddin, Gujrat, Gujranwala, Hafizabad, Sialkot, Narowal, Lahore, Kasur, Okara and Sheikhupura. During the evening and night, rain-wind/thundershowers are expected at isolated places in Khushab, Mianwali, Sahiwal, Layyah, Bhakkar, Dera Ghazi Khan, Rajanpur, Multan, Bahawalnagar, Bahawalpur and Rahim Yar Khan.

The PMD said Sindh is expected to remain hot and humid in most districts, while coastal areas are likely to experience partly cloudy weather.

In Balochistan, hot and humid weather is expected in most districts, with chances of rain-wind/thundershowers at isolated places in Zhob, Barkhan, Musa Khel, Ziarat, Khuzdar and adjoining areas during the evening and night.

Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan are expected to witness partly cloudy weather, with rain-wind/thundershowers at isolated places.

During the past 24 hours, hot and humid weather prevailed over most parts of the country. However, rain-wind/thundershowers, accompanied by isolated heavy falls, occurred in Islamabad, upper Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Kashmir, Gilgit-Baltistan and northern Balochistan.

The highest rainfall was recorded in Joharabad (58 mm), followed by Sargodha City (57 mm), Takht Bhai (47 mm), Mandi Bahauddin (20 mm), Kakul (16 mm), Sheikhupura (15 mm), Okara (14 mm), Hafizabad and Chakwal (12 mm each), Faisalabad (9 mm), Kotli (8 mm), Jhelum (7 mm), Golra and Saidpur in Islamabad (5 mm each), Mangla (5 mm), Attock (4 mm), Upper Dir (3 mm), Dera Ismail Khan Airport and City (2 mm each), Zhob (2 mm), Lahore City, Jhang, Multan, Parachinar, Kalam, Bunji and Zero Point Islamabad (1 mm each).

The highest maximum temperatures recorded on Friday were 44 degrees Celsius in Turbat and Sibbi, followed by 42 degrees Celsius in Dalbandin.
