Pakistan, Malaysia emphasize closer cooperation to meet COVID-19 challenges

MULTAN, Apr 19 (APP)::Foreign Minister Makhdoom Shah Mahmood Qureshi said on Friday that honesty and commitment is the only way to improve performance and to move towards progress and prosperity.

Addressing a meeting of NFC Institute of Engineering and Technology (NFC-IET) here, FM Qureshi said that progress can be made through hard work, honesty and mobilizing indigenous resources.

He said that only a devoted leadership can move the institutions towards success. “I feel proud to know that the NFC’s administration was running the institute with its own resources”. He added that same spirit was needed in other government institutions for progress of the country.

He said that funds of billions of rupees had been provided by national and international institutions in the past for development of deprived areas of the country but the desired results could not be achieved.

Qureshi maintained that the NFC Institute of Engineering and Technology was an example for others, adding that this university would become one of the best universities of South Punjab in future.

He said that he would arrange a meeting of NFC-IET administration with Prime Minister Imran Khan to brief him about the achievements of this prestigious institute.

He said he would extend invitation to President of the country, Minister for industries and other dignitaries to visit this institute.

He urged the administration to ensure maximum tree plantation in the institute.

Earlier, in a briefing to FM Qureshi, Vice Chancellor NFC-IET Dr Akhtar Kalru said that the institute had been given degree awarding status in 2012 when there were only four programmes in it.

He said that 16 new programmes were being added in the institute in first phase from year 2013-2020. More programmes would also be initiated in the next phase from 2021 to 2027, he added.

He informed the Minister that Masters in Business Administration (MBA) programme would be started in the current year while establishment of medical college, law college and hospital would be initiated in the second phase.

He said that there were total 4300 students in the institute and scholarships worth Rs five millions were being provided to position holders and deserving students every year with institute’s own resources.
