ISLAMABAD, Apr 29 (APP):President Dr Arif Alvi on Monday said that helping the orphans and destitute and providing equal opportunities to make them successful communities was the prime responsibility of affluent members of the society.
“It is our collective and religious responsibility to take care of the orphans, widows and needy people and provide equal opportunities to make them part of thriving communities,” he said while speaking at a ceremony to observe Pakistan Orphans Day, organized by Khubaib Foundation here at the Convention Centre.
Describing the care of orphans and abandoned children as the nobler cause, the President said it was not just a social responsibility as a human being, but it was something enjoined in the Holy Quran, which repeatedly mentions the Muslims’ responsibilities towards orphans and the destitute.
He said treating orphans with compassion and love in light of the teachings of Holy Prophet Hazrat Muhammad (Peace Be Upon Him), who himself was an orphan, had a great reward in this world and in the life hereafter.
“By following the tradition of the Prophet (PBUH), we are answering the highest call for humanity,” the president said and added that all those who were involved in this project were blessed by Allah Almighty.
He said Islam stressed on protecting the rights of orphans including safeguarding of their wealth and property as a religious and social obligation of the believers.
The president said that children were the future of Pakistan and their upbringing and education was the collective responsibility.
The management of Khubaib Foundation was doing great service to the people, and assured on behalf of the government to continue support to all the endeavours of the foundation in future as well.
Speaking on the occasion, Chairman Khubaib Foundation said their foundation was proud of making a meaningful contribution to nation building by developing a comprehensive social program for rehabilitating the most vulnerable members of the society –orphans and abandoned children.
He said it was our duty, both as concerned human beings and as good Muslims, upon whom the Holy Quran enjoins the same care of orphans as of one’s own offspring.
