ISLAMABAD, Nov 8 (APP): Chairman Higher Education Commission
(HEC) Dr. Mukhtar Ahmad Sunday said HEC would sign agreements with
Turkey, China, Korea and others for setting up Information Technology
(IT) industries to boost the sector in the country.
Talking to APP here, the Chairman informed that he has held
a meeting with the members of Microsoft, Intel, Dell, Hire companies
and offered them to establish modern technology manufacturing plants
in Pakistan. These companies, he said have showed their keen interest,
he added.
Dr Mukhtar appreciating the Laptop scheme of the Prime Minister,
stressed the need for taking optimum benefits of this scheme for the promotion of quality education specially IT education in the country.
“The contractors were bound to establish an assembling plant for
these laptops domestically to strengthen IT industry and due to this initiative 1000 laptop were assembled here last year,” he added.
In the second phase the government set a target of distributing
2,00,000 laptops among students, he said adding, half of them
would be assembled in Pakistan while in the third phase they would
seek to get manufacturing technology locally.
In future, Dr Mukhtar said HEC would create a Wi-Fi, Hot-Spot study
environment for students, which would provide online contacting facility
to them.
Through this programme students of different universities would be
contacted with each others for study consultation, he added.
A Smart Class Room was also underway for the students of all best
universities through which the students would able to attend online lectures.
He said Australia has offered student exchange programme to HEC
which would help to build image of peaceful Pakistan in world
community.
Besides student exchange programme, HEC has also initiated
faculty-to-faculty exchange programmes with other countries, he
said.
The chairman said, they have a good collaboration with other
universities at international level.
HEC is going to launch a programme through which technical
universities would be established in Pakistan, he added.
These universities included a technical university for Frontier
Works Organization (FWO) would also be established soon.
He said HEC would also establish a technical university in
Morocco, covering entire Africa.
He said HEC would establish Central Asia States University in
collaboration with Central Asian States (CARs) to focus on research at regional level.
Central Asia states would share funds for this project. The
accreditation of this university would be at world level and its
students could be able to work at any high level industry of the
world.
