Heavy rain hits Islamabad; E-11, Ghouri Town among affected areas, no casualties reported

ISLAMABAD, Sep 01 (APP):Heavy rainfall across several Islamabad sectors led to water accumulation in low-lying areas, disruption of traffic at multiple points, and emergency drainage operations, while authorities reported no loss of life.

While, Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT) administration conducted emergency response operations under the supervision of Deputy Commissioner Islamabad Irfan Memon. Field teams remained active throughout the day to address water accumulation, monitor vulnerable locations, and restore normal conditions in affected areas.

The deputy commissioner visited several locations impacted by the rain and reviewed drainage efforts being carried out by district administration teams and other relevant departments. According to officials, immediate action was taken after reports of water gathering in low-lying areas.

Irfan Memon said that authorities had been continuously monitoring vulnerable locations during the monsoon season and had already identified areas that required close observation during periods of heavy rainfall. He noted that emergency teams were deployed as soon as rainfall intensified.

One of the most affected locations was Sector E-11, where officials reported record rainfall. The large volume of rainwater exceeded the carrying capacity of a nearby stormwater channel, causing water to overflow. As a result, rainwater entered roads and the basements of a number of buildings in the area.

The deputy commissioner stated that basements considered vulnerable to flooding had already been sealed as a precautionary measure. He added that field staff were present at the site and continued efforts to manage the situation and remove accumulated water.

In Ghouri Town, officials said water overflowed after a drainage channel became blocked. The deputy commissioner conducted a special visit to Ghouri Town Phase-II to assess the situation on the ground. According to the administration, a slab placed over the drainage channel obstructed the flow of water, causing it to spill into surrounding areas.

Heavy rain also affected traffic movement at several locations across the capital. Water accumulation on roads slowed the flow of vehicles and created temporary disruptions on some major routes. However, district authorities said traffic police personnel were working alongside administrative teams to maintain traffic movement and assist commuters.

Drainage operations continued in I-8, Ghouri Town, E-11, and other affected areas. Municipal workers and machinery remained engaged in removing standing water from roads, streets, and residential zones. Officials said efforts were being carried out on a priority basis to restore normal movement and reduce inconvenience for residents.

The district administration said all concerned departments had been placed on alert and that machinery, rescue resources, and field teams were present in vulnerable areas to respond to any developing situation. Authorities added that coordination among departments was ongoing to ensure a timely response wherever required.

According to the deputy commissioner, no casualties or loss of life had been reported so far despite the heavy rainfall and water accumulation in several parts of the city. Officials continued to monitor conditions and remained in contact with field teams across Islamabad.

The district administration appealed to citizens to remain cautious during periods of heavy rain and to immediately inform relevant authorities in case of any emergency. Residents were also advised to avoid unnecessary travel through flooded areas and cooperate with officials during ongoing drainage and traffic management operations.

Authorities said monitoring and relief activities would continue until conditions returned to normal and all affected areas were cleared of accumulated rainwater.
