Heavy rain hits Islamabad; 24/7 monitoring, dewatering operations continued

ISLAMABAD, Aug 31 (APP):The Islamabad district administration said it is closely monitoring the situation following heavy rainfall in different parts of the federal capital.

According to officials, water drainage operations are continuing in affected areas with the help of dewatering pumps to prevent accumulation on roads and in residential localities. Assistant Commissioners have been directed to remain in the field and are conducting visits to low-lying areas and storm-water channels to review conditions and oversee response measures.

The administration said coordination with Islamabad Traffic Police (ITP) is ongoing to ensure the smooth flow of traffic on major roads and highways during the rainy spell. Field teams are working to address issues that may disrupt movement across the city.

Officials stated that anti-encroachment operations are being carried out on a daily basis in different areas as part of monsoon preparedness measures. These operations are aimed at removing obstacles that may hinder the flow of rainwater and increase the risk of urban flooding.

The district administration further said that the cleaning of drainage channels had been completed before the start of the monsoon season to improve water flow during periods of heavy rain.

To ensure a quick response to complaints regarding standing water, a control room has been established. Residents have been requested to immediately report any water accumulation or drainage-related issues by calling 051-9108084.

The administration urged citizens to cooperate with authorities and follow safety instructions. Residents have also been advised to avoid unnecessary travel during rainfall and remain informed about weather and traffic conditions until the situation improves.
