ISLAMABAD, Jun 10 (APP):Federal Minister for National Health Services Syed Mustafa Kamal restored the Sehat Sahulat Program in Islamabad after a prolonged closure, aiming to provide free and quality medical treatment to residents.
During a visit to Dr Akbar Niazi Teaching Hospital on Wednesday, he thanked Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif for approving the government’s proposal in the public interest, paving the way for the revival of the Sehat Sahulat Program after several years.
He said the program has been launched in 42 hospitals across Islamabad and Rawalpindi, where deserving patients will receive free medical treatment.
The Health Minister clarified that if any hospital violates the rules and regulations set under the program or is found to be involved in corruption, it will be immediately delisted from the program.
During the visit, the Federal Minister met patients undergoing treatment under the Sehat Sahulat Program, Prime Minister’s National Health Program,  inquired about their well-being and asked about the medical facilities provided to them.
The federal minister expressed satisfaction with the medical services and facilities provided to the patients in the hospital.
He said that the population of the federation has crossed 3.5 million, while a large number of patients from Azad Kashmir, Gilgit-Baltistan, Rawalpindi and other neighboring areas also come to the hospitals of capital for treatment, which increases the burden on hospitals.
The federal minister said that the total health budget of the federation and the provinces is approximately  Rs 1,156 billion, but despite this, the patient satisfaction rate is not more than 10 percent.
He expressed determination that the government will continue to take all possible steps for reforms, transparency and provision of quality medical facilities to the public in the health sector.
