ISLAMABAD, Nov 26 (APP):Colonel Malik Ayub Awan, Administrator of the Anti-Narcotics Force (ANF) Drug Treatment and Rehabilitation Centre in Model Town Humak, has said that the ANF’s rehabilitation facility is playing an effective role in combating drug addiction across the country, offering completely free treatment to patients.
Speaking to APP in an exclusive interview, he said the centre is currently treating 40 patients who are undergoing a structured two-month course based on modern therapeutic methods. He added that only Pakistani citizens aged between 18 and 48 are eligible for admission.
Before admission, every patient undergoes a complete medical evaluation, including a dope test, PCR, X-ray and blood tests, after which formal treatment begins. Qualified MBBS doctors, psychologists and trained staff are available round the clock to look after patients.
Colonel Awan said the centre was established in 2005 and has since successfully rehabilitated more than 11,000 individuals who have returned to normal life. After completion of the 60-day treatment, patients are monitored for up to two years through a post-treatment follow-up programme, significantly improving recovery outcomes.
The ANF Rehabilitation Centre treats addiction relating to all types of narcotics. It has over the years treated personnel from law enforcement agencies, doctors, lawyers, journalists, athletes, labourers and people from various walks of life.
He said the centre is fully funded by the ANF, allowing patients to receive free treatment, accommodation, meals and all necessary facilities. He added that construction of the new building in Model Town Humak has been completed and the centre will soon shift there. The new facility will have capacity for 100 patients, including 60 men, 40 women and children.
Colonel Awan noted that federal ministers, senior military officials, sports figures and social welfare groups frequently visit the facility to encourage patients. He said internationally acclaimed psychologists also support the centre, including UK-based Dr. Ghazanfar, who visits twice a year at his own expense to train staff and examine patients.
He said the ANF’s mission is to achieve the vision of “One Nation, One Goal, A Drug-Free Pakistan.” He urged the public to report any drug-related suspicious or illegal activity, or to seek help for any addict within the family, by contacting the ANF helpline at 1415. The identity of the informant, he assured, will remain completely confidential.
