ABBOTTABAD, Oct 01 (APP):Hazara Electric Company (HAZECO) Thursday has launched a major crackdown on electricity theft in the City-II Sub-Division, disconnecting dozens of illegal connections and confiscating hundreds of metres of electricity wires and several illegal meters.
The operation was conducted on the APS/BBK feeder under the supervision of Sub-Divisional Officer (SDO) Raheel, in collaboration with Union Zonal Youth Chairman Arsalan Khan Jadoon and officials of the relevant complaint offices.
During a special checking and detection campaign, HAZECO teams identified illegal electricity connections and cases of power theft at various locations. Several illegal meters were immediately disconnected and removed from the sites and handed over to the concerned offices for further departmental and legal action.
SDO Raheel said the operation was launched to eliminate the illegal use of electricity and ensure strict implementation of directives issued by the higher authorities.
He said electricity theft caused huge losses to the national exchequer and warned that legal action and heavy fines would be imposed on those involved in the practice.
He added that the campaign against electricity theft would continue without discrimination until illegal connections and unauthorized use of electricity were eliminated.
