Govt to utilize all resources to help quake affected people: Ahsan

ISLAMABAD, Oct 28 (APP): Minister for Planning, Development and
Reforms Ahsan Iqbal said on Wednesday the government would utilize all possible resources for the rehabilitation of earthquake affected people.
The minister, in a statement here, said the government would
leave no stone unturned to provide relief to the victims of
earthquake. Ahsan Iqbal said the grief of affected people was the grief of
the entire nation. The loss of precious human lives and financial
damages due to collapse of houses in the earthquake were the loss
of the whole nation.
He reiterated the government’s resolve that it would not rest
till the last victim of earthquake was rehabilitated.
The minister said that natural calamities were a challenge both
for the government and the people but such an opportunity should be used
to move ahead.
He said on the directives of Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif,
the federal government was in contact with Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government
for the rehabilitation and relief of the affected people.
Natural calamities were unavoidable but their effects could be
minimized through well-devised contingency plans and risk management measures, he remarked.
He said the government departments were better equipped to deal
with emergencies than before and the government was focussing to equip
the disaster management departments with the latest means and tools to
deal with the natural calamities in an efficient manner.
He said the government would also provide needed resources to these
departments to discharge their responsibilities.
Ahsan Iqbal said the government was also considering many measures
and its Vision-2025 also emphasized on climate change issue to minimize the damages of such natural climates.
“Vision-2025 focuses on urban development and smart cities and it
will not only help in better management of cities but will also minimize
the risks of losses caused by disasters,” he added.
