ISLAMABAD, July 15 (APP): Minister for Defence Production
Rana Tanveer Hussain Friday said the PML-N government was sincere in extending the ‘Protection of Pakistan Act’ to completely eliminate terrorism from the country.
The Act was implemented in 2014 for two years to improve law and order situation and wipe out terrorism from the country, he said talking to a private news channel programme.
The minister said all the political parties had supported
this act, however, Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif has constituted a committee to consult with opposition to evolve consensus. He expressed hope that political parties would again support this law to yield more desired results.
He said the consultation with political parties on this act
was democratic process and the government would welcome opposition’s suggestions for amendments in that act.
Rana Tanveer Hussain said,”It is wrong perception that some
political parties are being victimized through the Protection of
Pakistan Act. The government has no involvement in the cases proceeding under the act including Dr Asim case.”
He said the incumbent government has taken extraordinary
measures to eliminate terrorism from the country. The operations Zarb-e-Azb and Karachi have achieved immense success in that regard as law and order situation of Karachi, Swat, FATA and other cities were much better as compared to the past.
The minister underlined the need to jointly work for
prosperity and development of the country.
