Govt to announce compensation package for quake-affected areas

SHANGLA, Oct 27 (APP): Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif
Tuesday said the government would announce a compensation package in
consultation with the provincial government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa,
as soon as damage assessment of the quake affected areas was
completed.
Addressing a gathering of the quake affected people here, the
Prime Minister regretted the heavy damages caused by the magnitude
8.1 earthquake on Monday and said the Malakand division has the
highest death toll.
He prayed to Allah Almighty for those who lost their lives and
said teams of doctors have been despatched from Islamabad and by the
Punjab government to look after the injured.
The Prime Minister said the government was also focussing on
urgent reopening of roads blocked by landslides and said the
Frontier Works Organisation and the provincial government would
restore the roads on priority.
He was also appreciative of the quick response of the Pakistan
Army and its rescue and relief efforts.
Addressing the gathering Adviser to Prime Minister Engr Amir
Muqam said Shangla was one of the districts that has seen many a
natural calamities in the past and has bravely coped with these.
He said the area was also affected by the military operation
against extremist and terrorist elements.
He said the heavy three day rain has also lowered the
temperature and there was urgent requirement for tents, blankets and
food for the displaced people.
