Govt takes various steps for welfare of overseas Pakistanis; Economic Survey

ISLAMABAD, Jun 9 (APP): The federal government took various initiatives at federal and provincial levels for the welfare and development of overseas Pakistanis in terms of quality as part of its commitment to accomplish Goal 4 of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) during lat ten months of Fiscal Year 2021-22.

According to Economic Survey 2021-22 issued by Minister for Finance Miftah Ismail and Minister Planning and Development Ahsan Iqbal at press conference here Thursday, more than 11.7 million Pakistanis have proceeded abroad for employment to over 50 countries through official procedures as of December 2021.

The 96 percent migration of Pakistani workers concentrated on Gulf Cooperation Council countries with majority hosted by Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates.

They are contributing in the economic development of Pakistan by sending remittances, which is the second largest source of foreign exchange after the exports. Table 12.3 presents detail of Pakistani workers registered for overseas employment, the Survey said.
