Govt, opposition equally responsible to run parliamentary affairs smoothly: Dr Firdous

ISLAMABAD, May 9 (APP):Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on Information and Broadcasting Dr Firdous Ashiq Awan Thursday said the government and opposition were equally responsible to run the parliamentary affairs smoothly.
Talking to a private news channel, she said the Parliament should be used for resolving peoples issues and making legislation, but opposition had made it a political battlefield.
She said opposition was only criticising the government but not ready to listen to its achievements.
She said criticising the government policies was the right of opposition, but it should also praise the good work of the government, adding that opposition should play its due role for the betterment of the country.
She said the incumbent government was ready to hold elections in newly merged area of FATA in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
Replying to a question, she said Prime Minister was empowering the people of FATA and bringing them in national mainstream as he had allocated Rs100 billion for the development of the area.
Dr Firdous said the government had reservations about the opposition leader who was missing from the parliament these days.
To another question, she said Mariyam Nawaz was not a threat to the government as she had been convicted by the Supreme Court (SC), so she could not hold any position in the party. Law was equal for everyone as the PTI government strongly believed in supremacy of law in the country, she added.
She said Prime Minister Imran Khan was elected by the people of the country but not by those who were rejected by the masses.
She said speaker of the house was responsible to make a balance between the government and opposition members.
