Govt must facilitate businesses to reap opportunities in Afghanistan, CARs: PAJCCI

PESHAWAR, Aug 24 (APP):A meeting of the stakeholders of Pak-Afghan Joint Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PAJCCI) focused on regional business connectivity.

According to a press release issued here on Wednesday, the meeting was attended by business community along with women members, officials of Trade Development Authority of Pakistan (TDAP) and PAJCCI senior management including Vice President, Zia-ul-Haq Sarhadi.

In the onset of the meeting, Zia Sarhadi, Vice President PAJCCI informed the forum about on-going developments in the area of land trade with Afghanistan especially the role which government can play in facilitation and improvement. He apprised that PAJCCI and its Chairman, Zubair Motiwala and Co-Chairman, Khan Jan Alokozai have put their good offices to raise the voice of business community with governments to the level of respective premiers.

Nighat Shahid, President Faisalabad Women Chamber of Commerce and Industry apprised the forum about her recent visit to Azerbaijan and highlighted the huge business potential there. She said that business with Central Asian Republics (CARs) has high yield potential for Pakistani products however transportation cost was too high due to transit barriers between Pakistan and Afghanistan.

Durreshawar, of women wing PAJCCI appreciated the relentless efforts of businesswomen despite trade barriers and testing times.

Secretary General PAJCCI Faiza informed the forum that the meeting was focusing on continuous engagement of businesswomen and it had extended the invitation to participate in upcoming Focus Group discussion in which PAJCCI had invited members of Afghan women chamber of commerce and industry to provide B2B connectivity to women in business on both sides of the border.
She also apprised that TDAP had agreed to organize two Expos for PAK-AFG business community and would invite women members from both sides to encourage equal participation of women led businesses. PAJCCI is committed to encourage and activate women business community of the two countries which is vital to uplift the economy and to generate respectful employment for the women, she added.
