Govt committed to bring FATA at par with other regions of country through reforms: President

ISLAMABAD, Aug 30 (APP): President Mamnoon Hussain on Tuesday said the government was committed to bring Federally Administered Tribal Areas (FATA) at par with other regions of the country through reforms and ensuring socio-economic development of the region.

He stated that introduction of comprehensive reforms in
FATA was a step in right direction and would be instrumental
in meeting longstanding demands of the people of the region.

The President expressed these views while chairing a
presentation on FATA Reforms here at the Aiwan-e-Sadr.

Advisor to the Prime Minister on Foreign Affairs Sartaj
Aziz, Minister for Law Zahid Hamid, Minister for SAFRON Lt Gen (R) Abdul Qadir Baloch, Governor Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Iqbal Zafar Jhagra and National Security Advisor Lt Gen (R) Nasser Khan Janjua were also present on the occasion.

The President stated that FATA reforms should be in line
with the aspirations of the people of the region and all
stakeholders should be taken on board.

He stressed on the need to have an effective check and
balance mechanism to ensure proper utilization of development funds and to curb corruption during implementation phase of the reforms.

The President appreciated the work of FATA Reforms
Committee and hoped that FATA Reforms would help in
mainstreaming FATA and addressing the issues for socio-
economic development of the region.

During the presentation, the President was apprised that
the members of FATA Reforms committee held meetings with all stakeholders including elected representatives of FATA, tribal Maliks and Elders, representatives of political parties, traders, journalists, youth and civil society organizations to gather their opinion and suggestions before finalizing its recommendations for the future of the region.
