ISLAMABAD, Aug 17 (APP):Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Attaullah Tarar on Monday reiterated the government’s commitment for integration of technology and financial services to promote financial inclusion, ensure transparency, and eventually establish a cashless economy.
Addressing the launching ceremony of Z-Wallet, the minister highlighted the government’s vision to provide citizens with accessible, convenient, and integrated financial services driven by modern technology.
He said the launch of initiative with a collaboration between Zindagi, Zong, and JS Bank is a reflection the vision of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif who is leading every way of the step going towards technological integration and cashless economy.
The prime minister has also constituted a high-powered committee on cashless economy, which he chaired by himself, he added.
The minister recalled the launch of first IT board in Punjab during the tenure of PM Shehbaz as Chief Minister of Punjab.
The Punjab IT board was the first public organization based on technology.
He said the first video conferencing services in the public sector was also introduced by PM Shehbaz Sharif who, during his tenure as CM Punjab, did not want the officials who were posted in far flung areas to come to Lahore to attend the meetings.
“There began a journey of technological advancement, inclusion and efficiency,” he remarked.
Recalling the undue criticism of the laptop scheme, he said it was the vision of PM Shehbaz that helps keep the economy float during the COVID times when a lot of people were working from home and obtaining education online.
The minister also extended his compliments to all the stakeholders for the launch of Z-Wallet and said the government not only welcomes the initiative but also fully back it.
“This is a great step and collaboration. I would not only like to appreciate the initiative but to assure you on behalf of the Prime Minister that wherever there is a collaboration between two industries such internet banking, technological advancement and telecome services, you will find the government to stand with you shoulder to shoulder,” he stressed.
He also appreciated the name of the initiative highlighting its close connection with the modern generation.
“I would like to assure you in the next cashless economy meeting, we will not only highlight this initiative, but also make it part of press release issued by the prime minister’s Office so that other can follow example.”
