MULTAN, Oct 25 (APP)::Punjab Governor Chaudhry Muhammad Sarwar on Thursday said the country was facing multiple challenges on different fronts but the Pakistani nation was courageous enough to tackle all these challenges.
He was speaking at a lunch hosted in his honour by chairman industrial estate board and former provincial minister Khawaja Jalaluddin Rumi at his residence.
The governor said that establishment of south Punjab as a separate province was part of the party manifesto and the promise would be fulfilled. He thanked the people of Multan for extending overwhelming support to Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf in general election 2018.
He lauded the business and industrial community of the country, saying they were surviving and progressing amid difficult circumstances.
Chaudhry Sarwar pledged to give due honour and respect to the business and industrial community as their right, adding that they play a pivotal role in providing means of earning to a larger segment of society and contribute to revenue through taxes.
These people had been ignored in the past and they did not get respect they deserved, the governor said and promised that the government would consult business community before taking decisions relating to the community and business.
He said that it was not easy for the government to slash gas tariff for industry by almost 50 per cent amid difficult economic situation. However, despite all odds government moved ahead with this relief for the business and industry and it would have to bear the burden of Rs 50 billion on this account.
He expressed concerns that Pakistan’s exports were below $20 billion and imports were around $60 billion, adding that bridging this trade deficit required active struggle from all particularly the business community. He said that the government could not overcome the crises alone and needed support of people, industrialists, traders, and bureaucrats.
He promised that no one or their businesses would be targeted on the basis of political affiliations; however, added that accountability process would move ahead in an indiscriminate manner and merit will reign supreme in all affairs.
He pledged to set things right with regard to outdated Patwari, police and tehsildar system. He said that billions of rupees have been invested for provision of clean drinking water but the problem still stands unresolved.
He said that the government was going to launch a survey regarding area-wise availability of water to ensure that every individual has access to clean drinking water as a right.
He said that the government also needed support of people to overcome the problem and urged the industrialists to provide clean drinking water to their workers at their work places.
Chaudhry Muhammad Sarwar said that he was consulting vice chancellors of universities to further improve the standard of medical education and training and bring it at par with
the international standards.
Earlier, Khawaja Jalaluddin Rumi said that people of south
Punjab have attached high hopes with the PTI government for
