ISLAMABAD, Jun 04 (APP):Marking the International Day of Innocent Children Victims of Aggression, Kashmiri leader and wife of imprisoned freedom fighter Yaseen Malik,Mishal Malik on Thursday called on the international community to take urgent action against violence targeting children in Palestine and Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK), saying thousands of young lives have been lost, injured or permanently scarred by conflict and occupation.
In a statement issued on the occasion, Mishal Malik said the day is observed worldwide to raise awareness about the suffering of children subjected to physical and psychological violence.
She said more than 21,000 Palestinian children had been killed in Israeli attacks over the past three years, including over 1,000 infants, while more than 44,000 others had been injured.
MS Malik further added that nearly 21,000 of the injured Palestinian children had suffered lifelong disabilities, describing the humanitarian situation as one of the gravest tragedies of modern times.
Drawing parallels with Kashmir, Mishal Malik said hundreds of children in IIOJK had also fallen victim to Indian brutality. Mishal Malik claimed that more than 100,000 children had been orphaned and thousands injured as a result of the ongoing conflict, while the international community continued to ignore their plight.
“The world’s major powers have turned a blind eye to Israeli and Indian aggression,” she said, adding that global silence in the face of oppression amounted to complicity with the perpetrators.
Mishal Malik said violence against Kashmiri children remained a stain on the conscience of humanity. Referring to the use of pellet guns, she said children had not only lost their eyesight but also their dreams and future opportunities.
She urged international human rights organisations and global institutions to take practical steps to protect children living under occupation and ensure accountability for violations of their fundamental rights.
