ISLAMABAD, Nov 03 (APP):Senate Chairman Syed Yousaf Raza Gilani has praised the bravery, cultural heritage, and centuries-old equestrian traditions of Madrotta, calling it a land known for its valour, history, and deep connection with horse riding.
Addressing the Horse-Riding Championship in Madrotta, District Attock, Gilani said traditional sports truly reflect a region’s culture, customs, and way of life.
“These games are not just a form of entertainment but a living expression of our cultural identity,” he said.
He added that Pakistan holds a special place in the world of traditional sports, with horse riding symbolising national pride and heritage.
Highlighting the importance of the event, Gilani said the Madrotta Show was more than a competition — it was a celebration of Pakistan’s equestrian legacy and spirit. “The courage, skill, and traditions of our horsemen are a source of pride for the entire nation,” he added.
The Senate Chairman said equestrian sports such as Neza Bazi (tent pegging) date back to ancient times, even to the era of Alexander the Great. In those days, horsemen were highly respected — a tradition that continues today through such events.
“Horse riding is not just about competition,” he said. “It teaches patience, balance, harmony, and endurance. These lessons go beyond sport and help us lead disciplined and composed lives.”
Gilani highlighted the role of such events in engaging the youth and preserving cultural heritage. “These games unite communities, families, and generations, reminding us of the shared spirit that binds us as Pakistanis,” he remarked.
He also appreciated the riders’ skill and commitment, saying their passion keeps the equestrian tradition alive and honors the courage of their ancestors.
Praising Sardar Shani and his team for organizing the event, Gilani said, “Your vision and efforts have made Madrotta a source of pride for equestrian lovers across Pakistan.”
He reaffirmed full support for initiatives that promote traditional sports, saying they not only build athletic talent but also strengthen national identity.
Concluding his speech, Gilani prayed for peace, unity, and prosperity in Pakistan.
The event was attended by Punjab Governor Sardar Saleem Haider, MNAs Syed Ali Musa Gilani and Abdul Majeed Niazi, former KP Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur, Pir Syed Qutab Ali Shah, and several other notable figures from across the country.
