Gilani calls for collective action to protect environment

ISLAMABAD, Jun 04 (APP):Chairman of the Senate Syed Yousaf Raza Gilani on Thursday called for collective and sustained efforts to tackle environmental challenges and protect natural resources for future generations.
In his message on World Environment Day, Gilani said environmental degradation, climate change, deforestation, water scarcity, pollution and biodiversity loss pose serious threats to ecosystems as well as sustainable development, public health, food security and economic stability.
He noted that Pakistan, despite contributing very little to global greenhouse gas emissions, remains among the countries most vulnerable to climate-related disasters.
The Chairman of the Senate stressed the need for environmentally responsible policies and the promotion of sustainable practices across all sectors of society.
He said protecting the environment is a shared responsibility that requires active participation from governments, institutions, communities and individuals.
Gilani called for greater public awareness about environmental conservation, efficient use of natural resources, afforestation, adoption of clean energy and responsible waste management.
He emphasized that investment in green development and climate resilience is essential to ensure a safer and healthier future.
The Senate chairman also urged citizens, particularly young people, to play an active role in environmental protection through practical measures such as tree plantation, reducing pollution, conserving water and adopting environmentally friendly practices in daily life.
Reaffirming the Senate’s commitment to environmental sustainability, Gilani said the upper house would continue to support policies and initiatives aimed at strengthening climate resilience and building a greener and more prosperous Pakistan.
