ISLAMABAD, Oct 09 (APP):The Embassy of the Federal Republic of Germany in Islamabad celebrated the 35th anniversary of German Unity Day with a vibrant garden reception that brought together dignitaries, diplomats, officials, and members of the international community in a spirit of friendship and partnership.
The evening commemorated one of the most significant moments in modern European history — the reunification of East and West Germany on October 3, 1990, which ended more than four decades of separation and symbolized the triumph of unity, freedom, and democracy.
German Ambassador H.E. Ina Lepel, addressing the gathering, reflected on the historical significance of the occasion, calling German reunification “a reminder of what can be achieved when people stand together for freedom, peace, and human dignity.”
The Ambassador highlighted the remarkable journey Germany has undertaken since reunification, emphasizing progress in democracy, prosperity, and international cooperation. She reaffirmed Germany’s commitment to global partnerships, noting, “Germany continues to build strong ties with friends and partners across the globe — and one of these friends is Pakistan, with its wonderful people.”
Drawing a cultural connection between the two nations, Ambassador Lepel quoted Allama Iqbal’s poem “Aik Shaam”, written during his university days in Heidelberg, Germany. She praised Iqbal’s vision as a bridge between East and West, symbolizing the shared intellectual and cultural values that continue to inspire German-Pakistani relations today.
Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Attaullah Tarar was the chief guest, on the occasion he extended warm congratulations to the people and government of Germany on its unity day.
The reception, hosted by the German Ambassador, brought together an impressive array of guests, including senior government officials, members of the diplomatic corps, military officers, business leaders, academics, and journalists. Representatives from German companies, foundations, and organizations operating in Pakistan also attended, showcasing the depth of economic and cultural cooperation between the two nations.
The evening featured warm hospitality, lively exchanges, and a celebration of friendship that underscored the strong and evolving partnership between Germany and Pakistan.
As the event concluded, the Embassy of the Federal Republic of Germany expressed its heartfelt appreciation to all attendees for making the celebration memorable.
