German ambassador calls on Shireen Mazari

ISLAMABAD, Oct 5 (APP):German Ambassador to Pakistan Martin Kobler, along with Counsellor for Human Rights Burghard Brinksmeier, Firday called on Federal Minister for Human Rights Dr Shireen M Mazari and discussed matters related to mutual relations and human rights in Pakistan and Germany.
The minister apprised the ambassador about the human rights issues in the country and how the government was tackling them through a comprehensive strategy by effective legislation, implementation of the existing laws and creating awareness in the society.
Shireen Mazari also informed Ambassador Kobler about the steps which the government had taken for the protection of human rights. “We have been working on three new bills on Anti-Torture and Custodial Death, Rights of Persons with Disabilities and Prohibition of Corporal Punishment including the Christian Divorce Bill,” she added.
She reiterated her firm resolve to take all possible measures for the promotion and protection of human rights in Pakistan. She showed her commitment to work collectively to further promote this relation particularly for the protection of human rights.
The ambassador applauded the effective measures taken by the incumbent government for the protection of human rights, including the rights of women, minorities and children and assured his full support in that regard.
