GB govt working to protect wildlife, environmental beauty: CM

GILGIT, Sept 11 (APP): Gilgit Baltistan (GB) Cheif Minister
Hafiz Hafeezur Rehman has said the government is working to protect
environment, wildlife and natural beauty like forests and glaciers in the province.

Addressing a cheques distribution ceremony to stakeholders’
of community based conservation organizations in Gilgit, the Chief Minister said the GB provincial government acquired land for an LPG air mix plant to provide gas to the GB consumers, initially to the people of Gilgit.

The step was taken to minimize the usage of wood, as people
were cutting forests for use in winter season, he added.

The CM appreciated the efforts of the Wildlife Department,
NGOs and community in safeguarding and sustainable management of
wildlife of the region.

Ghulam Muhammad, Conservator Parks and Wildlife Department GB
in his speech thanked the honorable guest and other participants to join hands with the department in raising awareness of the importance of wildlife conservation.

Meanwhile, the Gilgit Baltistan wildlife department has been
issued permits for 4 markhors, 80 ibexes and 14 blue sheep for Trophy hunting game through bidding system.

The bidding ceremony was held in forest complex Gilgit on last
week.

The highest rate offered for a Markhor was 65,700 USD, for
Ibex 3,300 USD and for Blue Sheep the highest bid was of 8300
USD,Ibex Highest rate offered for National Rs.300,000 and 55,000 for local GB.
