ISLAMABAD, Jul 28 (APP):A multi-party delegation from the Gilgit-Baltistan Assembly met Chairperson Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP), Senator Rubina Khalid, at the BISP headquarters on Monday to discuss key issues affecting underprivileged women in the region.
The high-level delegation was led by Speaker of the GB Assembly, Nazir Ahmed Advocate, and Deputy Speaker Ms. Sadia Danish.
Prominent women members of the Assembly also joined the meeting, including Minister for Social Welfare Ms. Dilshad Bano, Advisor on IT Ms. Suraya Zaman, President of the Women’s Caucus Ms. Kulsoom Farman, Chairperson of the Standing Committee Ms. Sanam Bibi, and Mrs. Kaneez Fatima.
The delegation felicitated Senator Rubina Khalid on her recent election to the Senate for a third term, acknowledging her longstanding contributions to social welfare and women’s empowerment.
In a detailed discussion, the visiting lawmakers highlighted the difficulties faced by women in Gilgit-Baltistan regarding BISP registration, disbursement of stipends, and various administrative challenges.
They emphasized the need for streamlining procedures to ensure equitable access to financial assistance for deserving women across the mountainous region.
Senator Rubina Khalid assured the delegation of her full support and directed the Director General BISP Cash Transfers to immediately meet with the delegation and address the concerns raised. She reaffirmed her commitment to inclusive development and women’s empowerment, especially in underserved areas like Gilgit-Baltistan.
The delegation expressed appreciation for the Chairperson’s swift response and her personal engagement with the issues.
They also reiterated their resolve to work in close coordination with BISP to further strengthen social protection initiatives and uplift vulnerable women in the region.
