Gates to be built at all crossing points of Afghan border: Sartaj

ISLAMABAD, Jun 16 (APP): Advisor to Prime Minister on Foreign
Affairs Sartaj Aziz Thursday said that Pakistan would construct
gates at all crossing points at Afghan border to regulate and document the movement of people and vehicles between the two countries.

Talking to a private television channel, the Advisor said that
Pakistan was constructing gates in its territory which was in no way
the violation of any international law or any bilateral understanding.

He viewed that gates were constructed at borders all over the
world and Afghanistan’s objections in this regard were irrational; however Pakistan was ready to discuss the issue with Afghan authorities.

Sartaj Aziz said he had invited Afghan National Security
Advisor to hold talk over the matter and get the misunderstandings
removed in this regard.

He said Pakistan had obtained loan from Asian Development Bank
for border management so that the transit trade and movement of vehicles and pedestrians could be regulated.

Other than easing the transit trade, the Foreign Advisor said
such gates would also help to have a check on the movement of smugglers and terrorists as around 40,000 to 50,000 people move between the two countries.
