ISLAMABAD, Nov 5 (APP): The Federal Ombudsperson for Protection against Harassment of Women (FOSPAH), under the Enforcement of Women’s Property Rights Act, 2020, on Wednesday successfully resolved yet another case of property rights violation, empowering a widow who had no knowledge of the property left behind by her late husband.
Mehwish Tahir approached FOSPAH in distress, unaware of even the exact location or worth of her rightful property, said a press release.
Following her husband’s death, she was deprived of rental income by a relative who took unlawful possession of her assets and threatened her with dire consequences. Despite her limited knowledge, she found the courage to seek justice through FOSPAH.
Recognizing her vulnerability, the Ombudsperson’s office extended full support—guiding her through every step of the process. From tracing property details through the Capital Development Authority (CDA) and the Federal Government Employees’ Housing Authority, to locate the property and ensuring settlement with the respondent, FOSPAH ensured that  Tahir’s legal and property rights were restored in full.
Federal Ombudsperson Fauzia Viqar noted that “many women, particularly widows, face similar challenges, often unaware of their inheritance details or property documents. FOSPAH is committed for ensuring that no woman is deprived of her rights simply because she lacks information or resources.”
This case underscores FOSPAH’s pivotal role not only in adjudicating disputes but also in empowering women through awareness, legal assistance, and institutional facilitation. It also highlights the urgent need for digitized, accessible land records and greater family transparency regarding women’s inheritance rights.
Through sustained advocacy and institutional reforms, FOSPAH continues to uphold women’s legal entitlements, financial independence, and dignity—ensuring that every woman in Pakistan can claim her rightful share without fear or dependence.
