ISLAMABAD, Jan 02 (APP):Pakistan will witness the first super-moon of 2026 on January 03, according to the Space and Upper Atmosphere Research Commission (SUPARCO).
Traditionally known as the Wolf Moon, this super-moon will also be the last event in the super-moon cycle that began in October 2025.
A spokesperson for SUPARCO said the January 03 super-moon holds special astronomical significance as it coincides with the peak activity of the Quadrantid meteor shower, making it one of the earliest and most notable celestial events of the year.
In Pakistan, the super-moon will rise at 5:51 pm PST on January 03 with an illumination of 99.8 percent. It will remain clearly visible during the nights of January 03 and 04.
According to SUPARCO, the distance between the Earth and the Moon at the time of the event will be approximately 362,000 kilometers, causing the Moon to appear 6–7 percent larger and up to 10 percent brighter than an average full Moon.
The spokesperson added that super-moons usually occur in sequences of three to four consecutive events. The current sequence will conclude with the January 03 super-moon, while the next super-moon cycle is expected to begin in November 2026.  No further super-moons will occur for the remainder of the year after this event.
