ISLAMABAD, Dec 18 (APP):The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) has arrested a key accused in a major pension fund fraud involving over Rs 46 million, following the cancellation of his pre-arrest bail by a court.
An official told APP on Thursday that the FIA Anti-Corruption Circle, Islamabad, took Talha Rasool, a resident of Islamabad, into custody after the Special Judge Central-II dismissed his bail plea. The case pertains to alleged embezzlement from the State Engineering Corporation (SEC) Management Pension Fund.
According to initial investigations, the accused, in collusion with other nominated suspects, siphoned off pension funds from the SEC management pension bank account. The official said the fraud was carried out through forged bank cheques and fake signatures at a private bank’s Blue Area branch, resulting in the misappropriation of Rs 46,153,330 (over Rs 46 million).
The case was registered on a complaint received by the FIA regarding irregular withdrawals from the pension fund. Following the court’s order, the accused was arrested, and further investigation has been initiated to trace the money trail and identify additional beneficiaries.
The official added that efforts are underway to apprehend other co-accused involved in the scam. The FIA reaffirmed its commitment to pursue the case to its logical conclusion and bring all those responsible to justice.
