Federal secretary directs faster completion of Islamabad autism centre
ISLAMABAD, Sep 18 (APP):Secretary for Federal Education and Professional Training Nadeem Mahbub on Friday reviewed progress on the under construction Centre of Excellence for Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) in Islamabad and directed concerned authorities to accelerate work, remove implementation bottlenecks and ensure the facility is operationalised within the committed timelines.
During his visit to the construction and renovation site, the federal secretary received a detailed briefing on the project’s physical progress, implementation schedule, outstanding works, human resource planning and overall operational preparedness.
He reviewed ongoing construction and renovation activities and directed all concerned teams and stakeholders to expedite implementation while maintaining strict standards of quality, safety and accessibility.
Nadeem Mahbub also called for close coordination among relevant authorities to identify and resolve emerging bottlenecks, stressing effective communication and stronger inter-agency collaboration to keep the project on schedule.
The Centre of Excellence for Autism Spectrum Disorder is being established as a flagship federal initiative under the directions of the Prime Minister to strengthen special and inclusive education through an integrated, multidisciplinary system.
The centre will provide specialised assessment and educational services, speech, occupational and behavioural therapies, rehabilitation, life skills development, research and professional capacity-building opportunities, parent counselling and family support, vocational training and other multidisciplinary services.
The facility is being designed around autism friendly, accessible and low stimulation environments, with specialised classrooms, therapy and sensory rooms, assessment facilities, counselling areas, life skills development spaces and secure therapeutic outdoor areas.
The purpose-built centre is aimed at providing a safe and supportive environment for children with autism and their families while strengthening the country’s special education framework and expanding access to specialised support services.
The federal secretary reiterated that timely completion and operationalisation of the centre remained a priority and directed all relevant authorities to complete the necessary arrangements within the stipulated timelines.
