Federal Ombudsman intervenes to reunite abducted girls with parents

ISLAMABAD, Sep 19 (APP): Two missing teenage girls, abducted from Karachi by child traffickers a year ago,were recently recovered from Dera Murad Jamali Balochistan, on the intervention of Wafaqi Mohtasib, M. Salman Faruqui.

The recovery was made possible due to personal efforts of Child Commissioner Sindh Zia Ahmed Awan, who is a prominent Lawyer and head of Madadgar, the Karachi based NGO, and recently appointed Children Commissioners, Raheela Hameed Durrani, Speaker Balochistan Assembly and Shama Parveen Magsi, former provincial minister and Ms Syeda Hashmi, Commissioner for Children,said a press release issued Monday.

The young girls, residents of Machar Colony Karachi, went missing shortly after they had left their homes to buy sweets.

The aggrieved parents searched for their daughters across the city but did not succeed in tracing them.

After some time with the help of ‘Madadgar’ (Karachi based NGO), the parents were able to reach Edhi Centre at Sohrab Goth where the girls were informed to be residing.

However, the parents were told by the Edhi Centre personnel that the girls had left the Centre with a person impersonating as their father. Only evidence provided by the Centre to the parents was photographs taken as documentation of reunification at the time of handing over the girls to the fake parent.

Based on the formal letter issued by ‘Madadgar’ to SHO Samanabad, FIR was registered against the primary suspect.

Thereafter, the police launched hectic search and succeed in apprehending a relative of the primary suspect.

The apprehended accused disclosed that trafficker namely Shafi Muhammad had taken the girls to Dera Murad Jamali, Balochistan.

The Commissioner for Children Sindh and head of Madadgar, Zia Ahmed Awan, apprised the Federal Ombudsman of the facts of the case.

Following Ombudsman’s advice Ejaz Ahmed Qureshi, National Commissioner for Children briefed the Children Commissioners of Balochistan about the incident and requested them to take necessary actions for the recovery of the abducted girls.

The Children Commissioners promptly went into action seeking help of I.G. Police and other influential personalities of the province for the recovery of the girls.

Due to their effective coordination and efforts Nadir Magsi, MPA Balochistan, caught hold of the culprits at Dera Murad Jamali with the kidnapped girls.

Presently the girls are in safe custody and Sindh Police has taken necessary steps to reunite abducted girls with their parents.

It may be recalled that the Federal Ombudsman had recently appointed 13 Committees of Children Commissioners across the country for protection of child rights.The initiative has started yielding results.
