Federal govt. to assist provinces in education sector: Baligh

ISLAMABAD, July 13 (APP): Minister of State for Federal
Education and Professional Training Engr Muhammad Baligh Ur Rahman on Wednesday said that the federal governmnet will continue to assist provinces as a role model for development of the education sector in the country.

Speaking at a “Three Day Workshop on Development of National Curriculum Framework” organized by Ministry of Education here, he said that the government was spending a hefty amount for the improvement of education system in the provinces.

The minister said that Academy of Educational Planning & Management (AEPAM), a related institution of the education ministry, was organizing regularly training sessions for the District Education Officers(DEO) aims at improving education standard.

Pakistan was established on the name of Islam; he said and added, it was the responsibility of the masses to care for the rights of the minorities in all sects including education.

The minister urged the educational professionals participated in the workshop to pay maximum attention on the characterization of the students in the new curriculum.

He said the provinces should be independent in education so that the sector could be developed.

The reading of Quran would also be made compulsory from class one to five, while from class six to ten the translation of Quran would be taught, he added.

The translation of Quran was necessary to create harmony, tolerance, humanity and peace among the nation, the minister emphasized.

Baligh said that it is now up to the provinces whether they adopt it or not, adding, the federal government has implemented the teaching of Quran in the eighteen thousands non-formal schools in the country.

It is mentioned in the constitution of Pakistan to make Quranic teachings compulsory in the educational curriculum, Baligh ur Rahman said.

The minister said that the name of writer of the “Quran Tafseer” would be finalized with the consultation of the Ulema of different sects.
