FCCP dismisses rape survivor’s petition

The Federal Constitutional Court on Thursday dismissed a petition filed by Saima Shehzadi, a woman who alleged that she had been subjected to rape.

ISLAMABAD, Jun 04 (APP):The Federal Constitutional Court on Thursday dismissed a petition filed by Saima Shehzadi, a woman who alleged that she had been subjected to rape.
A three-member bench headed by Justice Hasan Azhar Rizvi heard the case, during which counsel for both parties presented their arguments.
During the proceedings, Justice Rizvi remarked that if the woman had been raped, why was she subsequently married to the same person. Defence counsel responded that the accused had allegedly married the woman in an attempt to conceal the incident.
The court was informed that the alleged offence took place on June 17, 2025. According to the petitioner’s counsel, the parties were married on June 26, 2025.
The lawyer further stated that the accused divorced Saima Shehzadi on August 6, 2025.
During the hearing, Justice Rozi Khan observed that if a marriage had taken place, it was unusual that it later ended in divorce under the circumstances being described. He remarked that such stories were extraordinary and more commonly seen in films.
After hearing arguments from both sides, the Federal Constitutional Court dismissed the petition.
