Fair trial of Sahiwal incident to be ensured: Qureshi

ISLAMABAD, Jan 23 (APP):Minister for Foreign Affairs Shah Mehmood Qureshi Wednesday said facts about the Sahiwal incident would not be concealed and a fair trial would be ensured to punish those, who were involved in it.

Speaking in the National Assembly, the minister said the prime minister took immediate notice of the incident and directed a fair investigation into it. A Joint Investigation Team (JIT) was constituted which had presented its initial report terming the three family members including Khalil, his wife and daughter, who were killed in the incident, innocent.

“The family had nothing to do with any criminal activity,” he said, adding further investigation about deceased Zeehsan was underway.

He said that no effort had been made like the past to protect any government official and those involved in the incident would have to face a stern action as per law.
He said all the facts about the incident would be placed before media and an in-camera briefing might be also arranged for the purpose.
Qureshi said the government would take care of the daughters of Khalil, who remained alive in the incident. A proper mechanism would be ensured for their assistance to their assistance, he added.
The minister condemned the Sahiwal incident and asked the opposition not to politicize the matter.
Earlier, Leader of the Opposition Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif criticized the Punjab government on the incident and said that JIT report had not been made public after passage of 72 hours.
