ISLAMABAD, Oct 2 (APP):Federal Minister for Inter Provincial Coordination (IPC) Dr. Fahmida Mirza on Tuesday congratulated the Pakistan junior squash team on wining four medals in the 25th Asian Junior Squash Championship 2018 held at Chennai, India. Pakistan junior squash players won three gold and a silver medal in the Championship.
Fahmida met Pakistan junior team at Pakistan Sports Board (PSB) here Tuesday. Talking to media persons, she said these players are our heroes and have made the nation proud by wining laurels for the country. “The government will do all-out efforts to support players and they will be given maximum facilities in order to win medals for the country,” she said.
To a question, she said the consultation is in process for the appointment of PSB Director General. She said in order to revive our national game hockey and other sports, we have to make our system more transparent. I am sending the summary on hockey to the Prime Minister who is also the patron in chief of Pakistan Hockey Federation (PHF), she said.
She said once the game of squash was used to be our pride and I hope we will regain our lost glory soon. She also urged the need to bring private sector in sports. The minister also congratulated the national cueists who bagged four medals in Asian 6-Red Snooker Championship at Doha.
She said PSB in collaboration with Higher Education Commission (HEC), is working on the sports university. Talent will be brought to fore from every nook and corner, she said and added PSB is also working on improving the coaches’ training and skills.
She said sports ministers of all provinces will be taken on board for the encouragement and promotion of sports in the country. The Prime Minister wants to see improvement in sports but it takes some time to fix problems related to sports, she told.
Responding to a question, Fahmida said Cricket is not fully under my control but we have to answer questions related to it in the Parliament. She said the budget of sports is very less and sports grounds in the country must also be increased. The minister said she will be meeting Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman Ehsan Mani once he returns from abroad. The matters related to the sports task force are on last moments of completion, she added.
