Diplomats from 16 countries, joined by more than 34 Pakistani ambassadors via video link, visited the National Emergencies Operations Centre (NEOC) at the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) headquarters on Thursday, where they were briefed on Pakistan’s disaster preparedness, early warning systems and climate resilience strategy aimed at strengthening regional and international cooperation.
Envoys from 16 countries hail NDMA’s disaster response model
ISLAMABAD, Aug 06 (APP): Diplomats from 16 countries, joined by more than 34 Pakistani ambassadors via video link, visited the National Emergencies Operations Centre (NEOC) at the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) headquarters on Thursday, where they were briefed on Pakistan’s disaster preparedness, early warning systems and climate resilience strategy aimed at strengthening regional and international cooperation.
The high level delegation included heads of mission and senior diplomats from Tajikistan, Myanmar, Sri Lanka, Oman, Spain, Bangladesh, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Jordan, Indonesia, Germany, Hungary, Japan, Thailand, Canada and Uzbekistan.
Chairman NDMA Lt Gen Inam Haider Malik presented Pakistan’s transition towards proactive disaster risk management and outlined measures taken to strengthen regional integration and promote a global disaster risk reduction approach.
The delegation was briefed on the NEOC’s capabilities, advanced disaster early warning systems and the use of next generation technologies to improve forecasting and emergency response.
Officials also highlighted NDMA’s coordination with the national leadership, provincial governments, humanitarian organisations, academia and international partners to enhance disaster preparedness and response capacity.
The strategic appraisal showcased Pakistan’s disaster management framework, including risk communication, anticipatory planning, resource mobilisation and mechanisms for coordinated international assistance during emergencies.
Delegates were also given a demonstration of Disaster Lens 2026 and briefed on the Comprehensive International Simulation Exercises designed to strengthen preparedness for large-scale disasters.
Representatives of the National Disaster Risk Management Fund (NDRMF) attended the session, while officials from COMSTECH, the Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO), the Commonwealth and COMSATS participated virtually.
They emphasised the need for stronger regional cooperation, knowledge sharing and coordinated efforts to tackle climate-induced and complex disasters.
The visiting diplomats praised NDMA’s disaster management capabilities and expressed interest in expanding cooperation with Pakistan in disaster risk reduction, emergency response and climate resilience.
Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening institutional partnerships to address emerging disaster risks.
