Eminent social worker Sattar Edhi laid to rest
KARACHI, July 9 (APP): Eminent social worker Abdul Sattar Edhi was laid to rest with full official honours at the Edhi Village here on Saturday afternoon.

Edhi breathed his last at the Sindh Institute of Urology and
Transplantation (SIUT) on Friday night where he was under treatment since July 5.

Faisal Edhi, the son of legendary social worker, lowered his
father’s body into the grave.

Director General of Pakistan Rangers Sindh, Maj. Gen. Bilal
Akbar, Adviser to Chief Minister Sindh, Dr. Qayyum Soomro, were also present on the occasion.

Floral wreaths were laid at the grave on behalf of President
Mamnoon Hussain, Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif and Army Chief, Gen. Raheel Sharif.

Earlier the Namaz i Janaza of Sattar Edhi was offered after Zuhr prayers at National Stadium Karachi.

The mortal remains were then taken to Edhi Village some 45
minutes’ drive from National Stadium.

The eminent social worker was laid to rest at Edhi Village in
accordance with his (Sattar Edhi’s) will.

Son, Faisal Edhi, had earlier informed that he (Sattar Edhi) had digged the grave with his own hands some 25 years ago.

Faisal said that it was also the will of his father that he be
laid to rest in the same dress which he was wearing at the time of death.

It was also his will that if any of his organs could be transplanted to any needy, this be done as he would feel happy.

However, due to Edhi’s age except for the cornea no organ could be donated. The cornea of Edhi Saheb has been donated, Faisal told media person.

Earlier, the Namaz i Janaza of eminent social worker Abdul Sattar Edhi was offered at the National Stadium led by Maulana Ahmed Khan Niazi.

The Namaz i Janaza was attended by President Mamnoon Hussain.

Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif was represented by Punjab Chief Minister, Shahbaz Sharif.

Chief of the Army Staff General Raheel Sharif, Naval Chief
Admiral Zakaullah, Air Force Chief Air Chief Marshal Sohail Aman, Corps Commander, Lt. Gen. Naveed Mukhtar, DG ISPR Lt. Gen. Asim Saleem Bajwa. Governor Sindh, Dr.Ishrat ul Ebad Khan, Senate Chairman Raza Rabbani, Chief Minister, Syed Qaim Ali Shah, Federal Ministers Ahsan Iqbal, Mir Hasil Bizenjo and Tariq Fazal Choudhry, and a very large number of people from various walks of life also attended the Namaz i Janaza.

A 19 gun salute was presented to the eminent social worker
after the Namaz i Janaza.
