ISLAMABAD, Jun 2 (APP): Minister for Incharge of the Capital Administration and Development Division Tariq Fazal Chaudhry Thursday said concrete measures were being taken to increase supply of water for residents of Islamabad
Capital Territory (ICT).
Replying to various questions in the Senate, the minister said several steps had been taken to augment supply water in proportion to the increase in population during the last five years which included installation of new tube wells, construction of Chirah Dam, conduction of water from Indus River system at Tarbela Dam for Islamabad and Rawalpindi.
According Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) prepared during early 90s sufficient underground water basin was not available in following sectors of Islamabad including sector C-13 to 16, sector D-11 to 16, sector E-7, 8, 9 and 15 to 16, sector F-5 , 15, 16, sector G-5, 6 and 12 to 16, sector H-11 to 16 and sector I-11 to 16.
He also dispelled the impression that there was no proper
water storage System in many flats In different sectors of federal capital and added there was no any proposal under consideration of the government to regulate boring of water in areas falling under jurisdiction of CDA.
He said the estimated population of Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT) at present was about 2.170 Million (including urban as well as rural population) and the demand for water
to meet the needs of the same is about 211 Million Gallons per Day (MGD); as worked out during the year 2009 by the Consultants engaged by CDA.
He said the present number of tube wells installed by CDA at different locations of Islamabad stood at 191, catering to water supply requirements of sectors H-8, H-9, 1-8 to
I-11 and model Villages of Islamabad besides other sectors like G-7 to G-10, F-7, F-8, F-10 and F-11.
Answering another question, he said several measures had been taken to provide clean drinking water in the federal government hospitals in Islamabad in including PIMS, FGPC,
NIRM.
