Economic progress is linked to technology and research:Tanveer Hussain

LAHORE, Nov 16 (APP): Federal Minister for Science & Technology and Defence Production Rana Tanveer Hussain has said that scientists and researchers are asset of
the country as they play great role in the development of the country.
Addressing the Inaugural session of the two day All Pakistan Science Conference on “Food Safety and Security Challenges in Pakistan” jointly organized by the Pakistan
Association for the Advancement Of Science (PAAS) and PSCIR at Pakistan Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (PCSIR) on Monday, he said that it was big responsibility on researchers to find ways to increase yield of different agriculture commodities and the proper method to preserve them.He said that all departments related to this field were
facing some problems but despite all that they need to focus and stay committed to their work.
“No doubt these departments need funds and facilities but if we look at developed countries they also worked even in the situation when they had
limited facilities”, he said.
PCSIR should provide solutions to industrial problems and
their teams must visit areas where there were industries to
provide solutions to the industries at their doorstep, he
added.
Rana Tanveer said that economic progress of the country
was linked to technology and research.
“We have to focus on these areas to fulfil the dream of the economic
development. Strengthening of Science and Technology was the part of PML-N manifesto and with the grace of Almighty Allah
we would work for the uplift of the sector”.
However, he said improper handling of produced items need attention
,besides maintaining quality to increase the exports of the
agriculture commodities.
Chairman PCSIR Dr Shahzad Alam said that industrial
liaison office has been set up in PCSIR which would strengthen
interaction with local industry.
