ECNEC approves Rs 16,930.1 mln for advance metering infrastructure

ISLAMABAD, Jul 20 (APP): The Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (ECNEC) here on Wednesday approved Rs 16,930.1 million for advance metering infrastructure project of the Ministry of Water and Power in order to improve the billing system.

The ECNEC which met here with Finance Minister, Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar in the chair approved the advance metering infrastructure project for Rawalpindi Circle, Taxila Division and modern billing system for the entire company of IESCO worth of Rs 16,930.1 million.

Similar project for five divisions of LESCO Northern Circle, Central Circle and all four divisions of LESCO South Eastern Lahore at a cost of Rs. 30,274.66 millions was also approved.

The ECNEC considered and approved proposal of Ministry of
Water and Power for 500 KV Islamabad West sub-station at a cost of Rs 8,288.33 million.

While according approval the meeting emphasized that environmental assessment may also be carried prior to implementation of project as indicated in the proposal.

A proposal submitted by Ministry of Kashmir Affairs and Gilgit Baltistan for construction of 20 MW hydro power project at Hanzil, district Giligit was approved at a cost of Rs 6273.569 million.

The meeting had deliberations on a proposal by Ministry of Interior for construction of model prison at H-16 Islamabad.
The project which will cost Rs. 3928.523 million received nod
of approval from ECNEC.

The ECNEC after discussion acceded to proposal given by Sindh Government regarding Sindh Resilience Project for strengthening flood embankments and construction of small dams including systems for improving resilience.

The project would cover districts of Dadu, Jamshoro, Malir,
Hyderabad, Matiari, Thatta, Sajawal and Tharparkar. The project will be completed with a total cost of Rs 9984.00 million.

ECNEC also approved the proposal from Ministry of Communication regarding land acquisition, affected properties compensation and relocation of utilities for construction of Lahore Sialkot motorway. The project will cost Rs.5904.116 million.
