The occasion was a special cultural evening organized by the Embassy of the Republic of Tajikistan and the Centaurus Mall and as part of celebrations marking the 35th Independence Day of Tajikistan. A large audience from Islamabad and Rawalpindi gathered to experience an evening that beautifully blended music, dance, tradition and the enduring bonds of friendship between Pakistan and Tajikistan.
Dushanbe Vibes
The visiting cultural troupe from Tajikistan presented a captivating programme showcasing different dimensions of the country’s rich artistic heritage. Traditional music, graceful folk dances, national songs and colourful artistic performances transformed the venue into a lively cultural space reminiscent of the famous evening gatherings of Dushanbe.
Dressed in vibrant traditional attire, the performers won repeated applause from the audience with their energetic movements, melodious voices and graceful choreography. Each performance offered a glimpse into Tajikistan’s centuries-old traditions and its distinctive cultural identity, while also reminding the audience of the deep historical and people-to-people connections linking Pakistan with the Central Asian republic.
The evening reached a particularly emotional moment when a Tajik singer performed the much-loved Pakistani national song “Sohni Dharti Allah Rakhay.”
The rendition immediately struck a chord with the Pakistani audience. As the familiar melody echoed through the venue, spectators responded with loud applause and a standing ovation. The touching performance became a powerful expression of friendship, affection and goodwill between the peoples of Pakistan and Tajikistan.
It was more than a musical performance; it was a moment in which two cultures met through a language understood by everyone, music.
Speaking on the occasion, CEO Centaurus and Prime Minister’s Coordinator on Tourism Sardar Yasir Ilyas Khan lauded the remarkable performances of the Tajik artists and appreciated the Embassy of Tajikistan for its efforts in promoting cultural diplomacy.
He particularly thanked Ambassador of Tajikistan to Pakistan H.E. Yusuf Sharifzoda for his cooperation with The Centaurus in promoting cultural exchanges and strengthening people-to-people contacts between the two countries.
Sardar Yasir said cultural exchanges played an important role in bringing nations closer and creating greater mutual understanding.
“Cultural diplomacy has the power to build bridges that go beyond borders. Through music, art and traditions, people discover how much they share with one another,” he observed.
Yasir said Pakistan attached great importance to its relations with the countries of Central Asia and was committed to further strengthening these ties through tourism, trade, investment, connectivity and cultural cooperation.
“The government is keen to promote tourism in Pakistan and showcase the country’s immense natural beauty, rich history and diverse culture to the world,” he said, adding that relevant institutions were making efforts to attract international tourists by improving facilities, strengthening international outreach and creating opportunities for cultural engagement.
Sardar Yasir noted that the Central Asian states held a special place in Pakistan’s foreign and economic policy, adding that enhanced regional connectivity and stronger people-to-people contacts could unlock enormous opportunities for cooperation.
He expressed hope that cultural initiatives of this nature would contribute to closer relations, greater understanding and stronger bonds among the peoples of Pakistan and Central Asia.
Addressing the gathering, Ambassador Yusuf Sharifzoda thanked the management of The Centaurus for hosting the cultural evening and providing the Tajik cultural troupe with a platform to introduce the beauty of Tajik traditions and artistic talent to Pakistani audiences.
He said Tajikistan highly valued its longstanding friendship with Pakistan and regarded Islamabad as an important partner in the region.
The ambassador emphasized that cultural diplomacy was an effective instrument for promoting friendship among nations and strengthening bonds between communities.
“Events like this give our peoples an opportunity to discover each other’s traditions, customs and values,” he said.
As the evening progressed, the colourful performances, rhythmic music and traditional dances created an atmosphere that seemed to transport the audience thousands of kilometres away, from Islamabad to the tree-lined avenues, fountains and cultural squares of Dushanbe.
Yet, in many ways, Dushanbe did not feel far away.It was present in the music, in the colours of the performers, in the smiles of the audience and, above all, in the shared warmth between two peoples whose friendship has continued to grow across the mountains and borders of Central Asia and South Asia.
The cultural evening thus became more than a celebration of Tajikistan’s 35 years of independence. It emerged as a celebration of friendship, cultural harmony and the enduring human connections that bring Pakistan and Tajikistan closer together.
For the audience in Islamabad and Rawalpindi, it was an evening of “Dushanbe vibes”a colourful reminder that sometimes the shortest distance between two nations is not measured in kilometres, but in the rhythm of a song, the movement of a dance and the warmth of shared traditions.
