ISLAMABAD, Jun 29 (APP): Federal Minister for Parliamentary Affairs Dr Tariq Fazal Chaudhry on Monday met with officials from the United States (US) Embassy.
The meeting was attended by Minister Counselor for Political Affairs Terry Steer-Gonzalez and Internal Political Unit Chief Karen Glocer.
The US officials appreciated Pakistan’s role in mediating efforts to promote global peace.
Dr. Tariq Fazal Chaudhry said the role played by Prime Minister, Shehbaz Sharif and Field Marshal, Syed Asim Munir had received international recognition.
He said the acknowledgement of Pakistan’s diplomatic efforts by the United States and other countries was a matter of pride for the Pakistani nation. Pakistan would continue to play a constructive role in promoting peace in the region, he added.
He expressed confidence that the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding would soon be converted into a final agreement.
Dr. Tariq Fazal Chaudhry thanked the US and Iranian leadership for expressing confidence in Pakistan.
He said the acknowledgment of Pakistan’s diplomatic efforts by the United States and other countries was a matter of pride for the nation.
The US officials condemned the attack on the Rangers camp office in Karachi. They said that the United States strongly condemned all acts of terrorism in Pakistan. The US officials said Pakistan had every right to defend itself against terrorism.
Dr. Tariq Fazal Chaudhry said the country’s security forces were taking all necessary measures to prevent terrorism.
The US officials also appreciated the Ministry of Parliamentary Affairs for its constructive role in managing parliamentary business, including the budget session.
Dr. Tariq Fazal Chaudhry said efforts would continue to strengthen Parliament and democratic institutions. He said Pakistan and the United States shared long-standing relations, which had grown even stronger.
The US officials agreed that bilateral ties had become more robust. Dr. Tariq Fazal Chaudhry said Pakistan would further expand trade, economic, and diplomatic relations with the United States.
The US officials said the United States would continue to enhance cooperation with Pakistan across all sectors.
