According to result of count received from all presiding officers, as many as 1,110 the electoral college had exercised the right to franchise. Out of these votes, 27 votes were declared invalid by the respective presiding officers. Thus, the total number of valid votes cast was 1,083.

Chaudhry Aitzaz Ahsan, the second runner up was backed by Pakistan Peoples’ Party.
According to individual count of assemblies, from the Parliament (Senate and National Assembly) Dr Arif Alvi secured 212 votes, Maulana Fazlur Rehman 131 votes and Chaudhry Aitzaz Ahsan 81 votes.
From Punjab Assembly, Arif Alvi won support of 186 members, Maulana Fazlur Rehman 141 and six members voted for Aitzaz Ahsan. In Sindh Assembly, 100 members voted for Aitzaz Ahsan, 56 for Arif Alvi and one for Fazlur Rehman.
Similarly, in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly 78 members voted for Arif Alvi, 26 for Fazlur Rehman and five for Aitzaz Ahsan while in Balochistan Assembly where one member has one vote, 45 members voted for Arif Alvi, 15 for Fazlur Rehman and none for Aitzaz.
Under the formula, for the Parliament, the Senate and the National Assembly, there is one member one vote. The same formula applies to Balochistan Assembly where there are 65 members that account for 65 votes. For other provincial assemblies, the vote quota for each assembly is equal to Balochistan Assembly (65). In that case the total number of members, where it is more than 65, is divided in a manner that each assembly makes 65 votes.
Senate, National Assembly and Balochistan Assembly has one member-one vote while in Punjab, Sindh and KP Assemblies the total number of members who cast their votes would be divided by a certain figure to bring the vote count of each assembly to 65.
