ISLAMABAD, Jan 05 (APP):Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar’s recent visit to China signaled a strategic step forward in bilateral ties rather than routine diplomacy, international and China affairs expert Rashid Safi said on Monday.
Talking to APP, he underlined that the visit coincides with preparations to commemorate 75 years of Pakistan-China diplomatic relations, with both nations eager to define a shared trajectory for the future.
Rashid Safi said the 7th Pakistan–China Foreign Ministers’ Strategic Dialogue reaffirmed that the two countries are advancing political trust, economic cooperation, and security cooperation within a comprehensive framework.
He added that the meeting between Ishaq Dar and his Chinese counterpart Wang Yi was of exceptional importance, with both leaders fully agreeing that Pakistan–China friendship is indispensable for regional peace, stability, and prosperity.
He emphasized that the central focus of the visit was the second phase of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC). While the first phase laid the foundation for energy and infrastructure, Phase II is centered on industrial development, exports, technology transfer, and job creation.
He said Pakistan assured the Chinese leadership of policy continuity, administrative facilitation, and comprehensive security for investment in Special Economic Zones. China, appreciating Pakistan’s preparedness and seriousness, expressed readiness to expand industrial cooperation.
Rashid Safi further said that strong alignment was also evident on regional and global issues. The two sides agreed on close coordination regarding the situation in Afghanistan, regional stability, and cooperation at multilateral forums. Both countries share the view that economic development is not possible without regional peace and that joint efforts against terrorism are essential.
He added that the 75th anniversary of Pakistan–China diplomatic relations is not merely symbolic but a key milestone for future planning. During 2026, joint exhibitions, investment forums, cultural events, and educational exchanges will help pass the strength of bilateral relations on to the younger generation. The unveiling of the anniversary logo by Ishaq Dar and Wang Yi reflects this shared vision.
On economic cooperation, Rashid Safi said clear positive signals have emerged. Trade, financial cooperation, agriculture, minerals, renewable energy, and digital technology are among the future priority areas. Pakistan is actively seeking the relocation of Chinese industries to Pakistan to boost local production and exports.
Concluding, Rashid Safi said the visit made it clear that Pakistan–China relations have entered a new and more practical phase. CPEC Phase II, the modern orientation of the Belt and Road Initiative, and strengthened security cooperation will help define Pakistan’s economic and strategic trajectory. Mutual trust between the two countries remains strong, and this trust will continue to serve as the foundation for regional peace and development.
