DPM Dar chairs meeting on Wheat Stocks, directs PASSCO to ensure timely supply to provinces

ISLAMABAD, Sep 03 (APP):Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister (DPM/FM), Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar on Thursday chaired a meeting to take notice of wheat stocks in the country and directed PASSCO to immediately supply wheat to the provinces as per the allocations approved by the Economic Coordination Committee (ECC) and the Steering Committee.
The deputy prime minister appreciated the cooperation and coordination extended by all provinces, the Ministry of National Food Security and Research, and the Ministry of Commerce in resolving issues related to wheat imports, stabilising prices and curbing hoarding, a DPM’s Office news release said.
He further directed the provinces to ensure timely payments and lifting of the allocated wheat supplies. The meeting reiterated the decision to import up to one million metric tonnes of wheat, for which the Trading Corporation of Pakistan (TCP) was directed to start the process forthwith. In the first phase, 250,000 metric tonnes of wheat will be imported, with delivery scheduled for November.
The DPM stressed that all concerned institutions must continue working in close coordination to ensure adequate wheat availability, stable prices and relief for consumers across Pakistan.
The meeting was attended by the Minister for National Food Security and Research, the Minister for Commerce, Special Assistant to the Prime Minister (SAPM) Tariq Bajwa, Secretaries of the Ministry of Commerce and the Ministry of National Food Security and Research, representatives of the provincial governments, and senior federal and provincial officials.
