Digital shift in railways to match global standards: Abbasi

ISLAMABAD, Aug 3 (APP): Federal Minister for Railways Muhammad Hanif Abbasi on Sunday said that the digital transformation of Pakistan Railways was well underway, with a significant portion of the work already completed.
Talking to a private news channel, he said that the government has been commitment to modernizing the railway system through the integration of digital technologies.
He said that ticketing app, “RABTA” has been integrated with 16 banks and leading online payment platforms including Easypaisa and JazzCash to enhance public convenience.
He said that major reforms are underway to fully digitize railway services, including the inquiry system, train inspection, employee attendance, and freight operations.
He added that the initiatives aims to improve operational efficiency, enhance service quality, and align railway infrastructure with international standards.
The minister also stated that 40 railway stations across Punjab are being equipped with free Wi-Fi with support from the Punjab government.
“Most of the digitalization work has been completed and is now in its final stages,” he added.
Commenting on political matters, the minister said peaceful protest is a democratic right, but no-one would be allowed to create chaos under the guise of politics.
He warned that elements with a history of incitement, like Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) would not be allowed to repeat such actions.
