Dar emphasizes for transparent privatization framework, protect public interest amid improved efficiency in power sector

ISLAMABAD, Nov 4 (APP): Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister (DPM/FM), Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar on Tuesday emphasized that the privatization framework must be transparent, protect the public interest, and aim to improve efficiency in the power sector.
The deputy prime minister chaired the inaugural meeting of the Steering Committee for the Privatization of Distribution Companies (DISCOs) here, a DPM’s Office news release said.
He further directed that all steps in the process should ensure accountability and maximize value for the national economy.
During the meeting, the Secretary Privatization briefed participants on the progress made toward preparing DISCOs for privatization. It was noted that the process would be executed in phases, with a strong focus on detailed due diligence, necessary regulatory reforms, and adherence to international best practices.
The session was attended by Minister for Power, Awais Ahmad Khan Leghari, Special Assistant to the Prime Minister, Tariq Bajwa, Adviser on Privatization to the National Command and Special Investment Facilitation Council (NC SIFC), as well as the secretaries of the Power Division, Privatization Ministry, and Privatization Commission.
